2017 AT FLOORS OF STONE

3rd January 2018

By Kathryn Collins

2017 saw us celebrate our 10th Birthday and it was another exciting year. I thought now would be a good time to share our highlights with you.

Staff

We had some great new additions to the team last year, with Jonny joining in July and Sarah joining in October. Jonny arrived fresh out of University after graduating with a 2:1 in Psychology with Criminology, he has quickly learnt how to become a model sales advisor at Floors of Stone and has been an instant hit with our customers. Sarah is a little more well travelled after previous employment with M&S, John Lewis and Topshop she has great retail experience and spent 18 months travelling Europe, The USA and completed a work placement in Australia. Outside of work she is studying for a BA in Interior Design so can offer you all the advice you need for your project!

Georgia and Emily both departed earlier in the year, Georgia wanted to go and see the world so set off on her travels and Emily started a PGCE to pursue a teaching career. Both are very much missed in the office but we wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

Martha returned from maternity leave in May and currently works Mondays along with one Saturday per month. It’s great to have Martha back and she always manages to lift our spirits on a Monday morning as well as helping us through the mountain of weekend sample requests.

Hannah has been busy working her magic in the ceramics studio. Her handmade tiles are increasingly popular and she is regularly packing them up to go all over the world, including America and Spain. She also launched her range of pink handmade tiles which are just beautiful and are receiving lots of attention. Watch this space as she is currently working on some new colours and designs which we can’t wait to show you.

We also celebrated a Floors of Stone wedding in June, with Rob marrying Milly who works for deVOL. It was a stunning day, a great time was had by all and the sun shone for the whole day! We then missed Rob for almost 3 weeks whilst he enjoyed his honeymoon in Dubai and the Maldives.

Business

We are happy to report another year of growth here at Floors of Stone. We are still in what is a tricky climate but believe our ever improving website, expert staff and carefully selected product range at highly competitive prices ensure we continue to grow. We have a large number of repeat customers which reassure us we’re doing a great job as people keep coming back for more!

We’ve also had some great feedback from some very happy customers, you can check out these reviews on Google+, Houzz and Facebook and my colleague Molly has recently shared a lovely blog. Our staff work very hard and when customers take the time to write these kind reviews it really does make our day.

Products

We’ve continued our policy of bringing products to the market that will stand the test of time. We noticed an increasing trend of wood flooring, particularly with our sister company deVOL’s customers so felt the time was right to source a wood flooring range that sits perfectly in this style of kitchen and more. We also noticed a trend of stone flooring being fitted alongside wooden flooring in the family home with wood flooring often deemed a ‘warmer’ choice for cosier living areas.

We launched ‘Planks & Parquet’ in May 2017 and after a steady start have seen a significant increase in interest and sales. We know with a company name like Floors of Stone you might not consider us the first place to look for wooden floors but we will continue to spread the word and now you can conveniently fulfil your flooring needs under one roof.

We added the Lavello porcelain range at the end of 2016, a stone effect porcelain similar to our Dijon, Light Jerusalem and Dove Grey limestones. These have been very popular with customers so we have added to the stone effect range by introducing a replica of Basalt in both black and grey colourways. We have also just introduced the Polvere Ivory Porcelain which is reminiscent of a French limestone and has quickly become one of my favourites. The Polvere Ivory is available in an Opus pattern or a 1000x500mm tile which is a great format and we are looking to add additional colourways to this range in the very near future.

We want to say a big thank you to all of our customers and wish everyone a wonderful and happy New Year.
