Woodcock Wedding

3rd August 2017

By Rob Woodcock

On June 24th, my fiancé and I tied the knot.  Me and Milly, who works for our sister company deVOL, have been together for 3 years, and engaged for around 9 months.  We got married at a church in Barrow-upon-Soar, a village just up the road from our showroom at Cotes Mill, and the reception was at Milly’s parent’s house, which is just a short walk from the church.

The morning of the wedding I felt quite relaxed, a little nervous but nothing compared to my two best men, who were both stressing about their speeches and even had to go for a walk to go through it one last time and calm themselves down.  And they were meant to be relaxing me!

We had breakfast at my mum’s house in the morning with my family and the best men/groomsman.  We had a swift pint at the pub across the road from the church to calm any pre-match jitters, and then headed over.   Once we got to the church and all our guests started arriving, it all become real and the nerves started to kick in a bit.  Once Milly arrived and walked down the aisle, all my nerves dispersed in to happiness, she looked beautiful.  The service was going smoothly until the vicar dropped my ring, which was apparently the first time in 156 weddings!

And then it was back to Milly’s parents for the reception.  Their garden is massive, and the marquee was on the lower section.  Despite the weather forecast being showers, we were very fortunate that on the day the rain held off, which meant that people could socialise on the upper section of the garden while we did the photos, which were quite a stressful affair.

Then it was in to the marquee for the meal.  We had pâté to start, beef wellington for main and a chocolate brownie/dome for dessert.  It was amazing, the caterers did a brilliant job.  We had the speeches between main and dessert.  Luckily for me, my best men went quite easy on me, there were a few stories from the past of me at my most clumsy and foolish, but nothing too terrible.

A quick cut of a cake and then the evening guests started arriving.  Our first dance was to a song called Dice by Finley Quaye, which is from the TV programme the OC.  I was more nervous about that than doing the speech.  All of the Floors of Stone staff were in good form and quickly headed to the dance floor, and someone managed to grab of photo of all of us, with some by this point looking a little worse for wear!

After everyone had left at around 1am, Milly and I went and sat in the marquee by ourselves to try and soak in the day’s events.  To say it had flown by is an understatement, but I wouldn’t have changed a single moment.  Before I got married I thought people just said their wedding day was the best day of their life because they felt like they were meant to, but it genuinely was the best day of my life, and I will never forget it.
