Customer For A Day

5th August 2016

By Emily Thompson

A few weeks ago I experienced being a Floors of Stone customer for the first time. My parents had decided to extend the kitchen into the adjoining room and wanted a natural stone floor to suit the style of the property. Built in the 1940s it is neither an old cottage nor a new build so my parents didn’t think a tumbled tile would suit the kitchen and a super sleek modern tile wasn’t of interest either. After lots of deliberating and advice from myself they decided on the Dijon Brushed Limestone as it has just the right amount of character for a contemporary kitchen.

A brushed tile is the perfect median between a tumbled (typically rustic) and honed (typically modern) finish. The majority of the tile is fairly smooth whilst also having areas of texture and detail, which adds interest to the stone. The warm, mushroom tones in the tile suit many interiors and ensures that even the whitest of rooms doesn’t feel cold.

Having worked here for a few months now I felt very prepared for the delivery process and knew what to expect. I booked the day off work to ensure that I was available to sign for the delivery between 8:30-18:00 (my parents were very appreciative!) and called the office on the morning of delivery for an ETA. Our tiles were on the afternoon run which meant that I had the morning free to enjoy the sunshine in the garden. When the tiles arrived they were on a 7.5T lorry, which is about the same size as a dustbin lorry, and the driver parked at the front of the house and lowered the pallet using the tail lift and pump truck.

I pulled back the shrink wrap on the pallet and checked the tiles for any sign of damage before signing for them. My brothers were around to help me handball the tiles into our garage so they were ready to be laid the following week.

Firstly, the builder had to level the floor as there was a 13mm difference between the two rooms! The underfloor heating then went down and the tiling followed. As recommended by the team here at Floors of Stone, the tiler sealed the tiles once before grouting and once after grouting. The SEALAStone sealant is breathable and impregnating so it simply sinks into the tile without changing the finish or colour of the tile – I highly recommend it as it lasts 5-7 years. For those few days I was so excited to come home from work to see the progression of the tiling!

We are all absolutely thrilled with the results – although the entire room isn’t finished yet, the flooring is complete and it looks brilliant. Even though it’s summer now we have tested the underfloor heating and it works so well with the tiles. Visitors keep asking where we got the tiles from and I’m always proud to say Floors of Stone.
