A Sparkle in the Floor

10th March 2015

I love selling stone to customers in London. They tend to have unusual properties and unique taste, with quirky little touches that you won’t have seen before.

I recently got in contact with a customer who had such an interesting sounding project; I was desperate to see pictures. They still haven’t quite finished, as the project is a real labour of love, but I can guarantee you won’t have seen anything like the picture they sent across of their finished bathroom!

They plumped for the Riven Grey Quartzite, which comes in an opus pattern, for their hallway, downstairs bathroom and kitchen/utility.

The Riven Grey Quartzite has a similar riven quality to slate, but has more of a shimmery, sparkly finish. Starting life as sandstone, immense pressure and heat has compacted the stone, leaving the quartz, sand and silica grains shimmering as they catch the light.

Our customer has combined the grey tones of the stone with dramatic (and very on trend) dark blue walls. The subtle glisten of the stone reflects and adds a sense of light to the space. The bathroom has been cleverly designed to maximise the use of the small space, with every alcove, nook and cranny being used for storage. The pièce de résistance being that fabulous door! As one of our Facebook followers commented, it gives the space a ‘gloriously medieval’ quality.

I love seeing the different ways people decorate their houses and the one-of-a-kind finishing touches they find.
