A big year!

2nd March 2015

By Kathryn Collins

So 2014 was a huge year for both Floors of Stone and myself on a personal level. We had our big move to Cotes Mill last February which has been great for the business and customers alike, moving all staff to one location including our offices, showroom and yard.

The showroom has developed throughout the year with new product ranges and the inclusion of Tuscan Wood Flooring allowing us to offer a wider range of floor coverings. The increased yard space has also allowed us to stock more natural stone which benefits both us and our customers. The trees and lavender that were planted are now more established and the mill is being continually painted and improved. Cotes Mill has allowed us to offer larger displays with internal and external areas and we look forward to introducing some more outdoor displays in 2015.

On a personal note I moved house in May and got married in November. I never realised quite how stressful doing both in one year would be but we managed it! The house move, whilst a local move was hard work. Packing and cleaning, fixing and unpacking, dealing with banks and solicitors, changing names and addresses, but we got there. We are now settled in our new home and whilst we have a lot of work to do it already feels like a home and we look forward to putting our stamp on it.

The Wedding – many girls may dream and relish planning their special day, I for one did not. The excitement of getting engaged in December 2013 soon wore off when we started planning and throwing all of our money at it. We quickly set a date and this prompted endless lists, appointments, bills and argume…..discussions. Some bits were of course more fun than others, finding ‘the’ dress, booking our honeymoon and food tasting were highlights but trawling the internet for inspiration, chasing RSVP’s and making final decisions caused a few sleepless nights. We even managed to find the perfect centre pieces and cookie jars right here at Cotes Mill!

Everyone warned me about the stress of the final 2 weeks but if I’m honest by the time we got this close I started to relax…a bit. The day of the wedding came and despite the miserable weather I literally had the best day of my life.

It is the biggest cliché and that is not really me, but I realised that all the hard work was worth every second. The day was full of emotion, laughs and tears, dancing and drinking but being surrounded by our family and friends and marrying Andrew could not have been more perfect.
