My Portugal Escape

19th June 2017

By Charlie McEnery

After a year of waiting it was finally time for another summer HOLIDAY, wo hoo! I went with a group of eight friends and we stayed in a very nice villa in the beautiful Praia Da Luz just a stone’s throw away from the beach.

We arrived at Faro airport and jumped in the minibus transfer that was taking us to the Villa in Praia Da Luz, the roads were bumpy and windy travelling across miles of deserted land, until we hit the narrow cobbled streets of Luz.

Once we had settled in and unpacked it was time to relax and enjoy the holiday! There was lots of sunbathing, sleeping, swimming, tasty seafood and sangria by the lovely pool at the villa and the Praia Da Luz beach.

The surf in Praia Da Luz isn’t great so, on one of the days we thought it would be a fun to visit the West Cost for a bit of surfing! The beach was at the bottom of a very steep cliff of a road with a small café in the middle of nowhere. We surfed for a while until we couldn’t bare the ice cold Atlantic Ocean for much longer.

My friend Will waxing his board, getting ready to hit the waves.

After our chilly West Coast adventure we thought it was time to get back to the Praia Da Luz area for a relaxing sailing boat trip.

The boat was ported in Lagos, a quirky little seaside town a ten minute drive from our villa. Lagos had lots of cool shops and some great street art, not quite Banksy but very cool!

The boat sailed its way out of the port and all the way along the pretty Algarve coast past all of the Grotto caves formed from a tsunami many years ago.

We all had an amazing holiday in Praia Da Luz and arrived home to the scorching June heat wave in the UK feeling very refreshed and slightly burnt!
