New Beginnings

2nd January 2019

By Rachael Crockett

Only four weeks ago, had someone told me I would now be planning a move to Loughborough, working in a picturesque location, meeting a team of incredibly supportive people and learning so much about stone flooring, I would have laughed in their face.

Yet it’s happened!

After such a whirlwind of a year, living in Australia, travelling Thailand and coming home again, I have finally settled into a role which is both challenging and exciting and has been a perfect end to 2018.

I distinctly remember the day that I got that phone call asking if I could come in for an interview. I was excited. After extensively flickering through their websites, I knew that this was the place for me. Not only was I inspired by the incredible showrooms full of charming kitchens and luxurious stone floorings, but after reading the staff profiles, I realised that I would be joining a team of talented and unique individuals. Which was a huge motivation for me.

Once my first day arrived, I was not disappointed. I was brought to my office by my lovely colleague Sarah. My first-day nerves quickly subsided as everyone was so welcoming and I knew instantly that it would be easy to get along with my brand-new colleagues.

My fabulous team leader Sophie, gave me a tour of the Mill whilst I followed her in a state of awe as she showed me around. Not only does the Mill have seven inspiring kitchen showrooms, a huge stone flooring showroom, a ceramics studio and a kitchen workshop, it has a wonderful garden with a pond that looks beautiful from my desk window glistening in the winter sun. For animal lovers, it has fallow deer, peacocks and even chickens. I still can’t believe I work here!

After the tour, it was time for the hard work to begin. I spent the week being mentored by my wonderful colleague Martha, who helped equip me for the more technical side of the role. Learning how to create quotes for customers and take sales orders. Luckily Martha made it really easy for me to understand and I enjoyed learning new things!

By the time Friday came around, I had gained enough confidence to start answering the phones and taking online orders. After gaining gratification from helping our customers with their renovation projects, I knew I would enjoy this role.

Three weeks later, I can genuinely say that I look forward to going to work. It has been a wonderful experience and I am looking forward to the year ahead at Floors of Stone.
