Copenhagen

15th February 2016

By Kathryn Collins

Back in August me and my friend Suzanne were looking for a cheap break away. There wasn’t any criteria other than we could only fly on August 26th, so we looked at flights from relatively local airports and found the perfect deal to Copenhagen for £40 return!

Ten minutes later it was booked and after a quick search on Air BnB for somewhere to stay our accommodation was sorted as well.  Another friend, Hannah who lives in Saudi Arabia happened to be coming home that week and fancied the trip and she actually managed to book on the same flight!

So the three of us set off in search of a bit of sightseeing and culture but more importantly good food, drink and fun.

We did lots of walking and exploring of the city and I found Copenhagen to be the cleanest city I have ever visited. It felt safe and welcoming and the excellent public transport made it super easy to get around.

We took a boat along Nyhaven Canal, lined with beautiful coloured houses similar in style to Amsterdam. We visited Rosenborg Castle and had a picnic in the park. A short walk from our accommodation was a great food market and a trip across the river to Paper Island was the highlight. Paper Island is a big warehouse with loads of shipping containers turned into a haven of street food and drink stalls. We spent hours there sampling different world food trying everything from a selection of Brazilian meats, to calamari and Suzanne just ate cheesecake and pannacotta, we were on holiday after all!

A final evening was spent at Tivoli gardens, a 19th century amusement park and open air concert venue. There was a concert taking place, and it was a fantastic, family friendly atmosphere.

A perfect little trip away exploring somewhere new and spending some quality time with friends.
