Why Seagrass limestone is my favourite!

So, as Ruth has rightly pointed out in her previous blog post, we all have our favourite natural stone. Mine is without doubt the beautiful Seagrass limestone.

It heralds its characteristics from the oceans deep and, like the name suggests, really does remind one of a beautiful seabed.

I think I have a few personal reasons for my affinity with this natural stone tile. I studied a vocal diploma a couple of years ago and in my studies I fell in love with Edward Elgar’s Sea pictures op.37 and performed ‘Sea Slumber Song’ it is a beautiful piece of music depicting the ocean mother lulling her restless child to sleep. I performed in a concert gown that was very mermaid-esque and I can’t help but feel a Seagrass stone floor beneath my bare feet would have been a perfect homage to the feel of the performance.

My other reason of course, is that I think I must have been a fish or a mermaid in my previous life; I get drawn to its beautiful little shells and dappling and rich green flavours.  I had a customer who once stated that they purchased a Seagrass limestone floor a couple of years ago, and even now they still find details and fossils they haven’t noticed before. How beautiful! Most people enjoy a Sudoku puzzle with their breakfast – now you can play spot the fossil!

I think it’s very easy to forget that these perfectly cut stone tiles you are looking at are in fact a natural stone product, sourced from warm shallow sea beds.  Isn’t it lovely to think that when you stand or walk upon this natural stone you are literally walking on a little bit of the ocean full of shells and fossils and age?

I’m currently saving for my first home and can’t wait to install a seagrass limestone floor everywhere!
